Shalyn Smith: Supporting Families and Fueling the Mission

May 6, 2025

Shalyn Smith brings dedication and teamwork to every part of her role at Columbus Air Force Base. As a key member of the School Age Program, she helps strengthen the base community and support military families, because planes can’t fly without CYP.

From assisting with graduation dinners that honor the next generation of Air Force pilots to mentoring youth in STEM, Shalyn plays a vital role in mission readiness. She helped launch Columbus AFB’s first robotics team, The Jayhawks, guiding them to competition, where they earned the prestigious Rookie All-Star Award at the FIRST Magnolia Regional Robotics Competition in Laurel, MS.

Each day, Shalyn’s work at the Youth Center helps shape confident, resilient youth while giving families trusted, consistent care. Through creative programs, steady mentorship, and a deep commitment to service, she directly supports the Wing’s mission of Training World-Class Pilots – one family at a time.
