As 2024 wraps up, the 14 FSS celebrates a year of remarkable achievements, bringing Team 14 together through engaging events, innovative programs, and mission support.
Thunder Over Columbus Steals the Show
The standout moment of the year was Thunder Over Columbus, which drew an astounding 37,000 attendees, making it the largest event of 2024. This open house and airshow showcased the power of community and the pride CAFB Personnel and Airmen take in telling the story of CAFB and the United States Air Force.
Big Wins for Community Engagement
14 FSS kept spirits high and creativity flowing, introducing 23 new CAFB merchandise items from โWorld Classโ sweatshirts to patches and coins, the Arts & Crafts Center produced the most merch the base has seen. The Event Center hosted 9 trivia nights, challenging participants with over 360 brain-teasing questions and awarding more than $4,500 in exciting prizes.
For families, the Library delivered 70 themed storytimes, bringing characters like cowboys and superheroes to life and sparking joy in Team 14โs youngest members. The Youth Center and CDC collectively served over 46,000 snacks and the after-school program spent 232 hours on homework help.
Staying Active and Adventurous
Fitness was front and center in 2024, with 8 themed runs covering 30.2 miles, from the festive Turkey Trot to the spirited CAFB Half Marathon, where families cheered on their runners with creative signs. Outdoor Recreation planned 11 trips, including its longest journey to Panama City Beach, Florida, 341 miles from the base, giving Airmen a chance to unwind and explore beyond Columbus, MS.
Supporting the Study Grind
On the training front, the PrintShop supported Airmen with 1,571 laminated checklists and 209 cockpit posters, essential tools for our #WorldClass pilotโs success. Meanwhile, over 8,250 WHAC! magazines were delivered to keep Team 14 informed and hyped on upcoming programming.
Mission First, People Always
Every program, event, and initiative in 2024 reflected 14 FSSโs dedication to mission readiness and quality of life. Whether fostering connections through recreation or supporting the rigorous demands of pilot training, the squadronโs efforts focused on strengthening the CAFB community and its mission.
As 2025 approaches, the 14 FSS is dedicated to raising the bar, โBeing Better Every Dayโ, and ensuring Team 14 thrives in and out of the UOD.
